North Dakota State University (NDSU)

Based on the success of the activities outlined in the memorandum of understanding, the two universities signed a memorandum of agreement in February 2016. Under the agreement, the universities formally entered into a collaborative research and education development partnership, focusing on bilateral cooperation in scientific research and academic activity. The universities will jointly develop and implement a research-based academic curriculum to explore and serve the needs of clientele both in the United Arab Emirates and in the United States. In accordance with the aim and objectives of the agreement, a UMS-NDSU collaborative partnership funding program is sponsored by the University Of Modern Sciences for the joint research and development effort of between College of Business at UMS and Upper Great Plain Transportation Institute at NDSU in the following areas:

 

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) is a part of North Dakota State University. The UGPTI was created in 1967 by the North Dakota legislature to conduct and supervise research in the field of transportation in order to facilitate acqUMSsition of a wider knowledge and understanding of marketing factors associated with the geographical location of the state of North Dakota and the upper great plains. UGPTI is a leading research institute in the USA for transportation science, engineering, technology innovation and applications. The Institute has had a long and successful partnership with both the ND Department of Transportation and the US Department of Transportation. UGPTI has been the lead institute of a consortUMSm of universities in federal region 8, conducting research, education and training on transportation infrastructure and the movement of passengers and freight. Through this effort, the Institute works in cooperation with other universities in the region – Colorado State University, South Dakota State University, University of Utah, Utah State University, University of Wyoming, University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Denver. UGPTI has leading expertise in the study for transportation systems in a broad context of policy and planning, vehicle and infrastructure. Their multifaceted research areas in highway system modeling, advanced traffic and congestion analysis, adaptive traffic flow control, surface mobility applications and real-time simulations environments and transportation safety and security have received more than 20 million dollars in grant funding from U.S. Department of Transportation. Their research in the areas of connected, automated and autonomous vehicle technologies is solution-driven and some applications had already moved into government trails in the USA.

 

Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute is currently working in partnership with City of Denver for an application proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation Smart Cities Challenge. U.S. Department of Transportation will select its winning city and provide up to 40 million dollars funding budget based on the ability of research proposal to think big and provide a detailed road map on how innovative technologies are integrated to prototype the future of transportation. The proposal of Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute and City of Denver is supported by University Of Modern Sciences in the last round for U.S. Department of Transportation Smart Cities Challenge.
